Glass bridge | Cistercian St. Imre High School in Buda
Rákosy-Glass Kft. played an important role in the construction of the new sports complex of the Cistercian St. Imre High School in Buda.
The listed neo-baroque style main building built in 1912 and the new 3,700 square meters, four-storey sports center are connected by a glass bridge. The bridge in 12 meter high between the old and new buildings is approximately 15 meters long and 4 meters high. Due to the slope of the structure of about 2%, all the panes of glass are shaped; this shape was a challenge during the planning, on the one hand to properly position the holes for receiving the point gripping structures and on the other hand to ensure the continuity of the ceramic-printed patterns on the surface of the glass panes.
The finished glass bridge not only connects the old and the new building in physical reality and makes the passage convenient. It is a cross-historical solution that acts as a kind of time machine; by walking through it, we come from the past to the present, and perhaps we can gain insight into the future as well.
